. controversial right-to-work measures will soon be the law of the land in michigan. republican governor rick snider signed the law despite wide protests at the capitol. the law will make it illegal for a union employee to pay union dues as a condition of their employment. >> let's explain that. just for half a second. then we'll go on. right to work, what does it mean? people ask me, what does it mean? it means unions can force somebody to pay them if they want to get a job in the state of michigan. >> well, what it means is, if you get a job, the union extracts money from your paycheck for the dues for union dues. >> well, yeah. >> automatically. >> automatically. >> you've got no choice. oh, you want to work here? well, you've got to pay us. >> right. >> what if i don't want to pay you? what if i don't want to support the candidates you support? what if they're the antithesis of my values? too bad. and so i've never understood this. >> governor snider says it was the unions who started the fight in the first place. by trying to add collective bargaining rights in the state's constitution.

, huh? angry protests and arrests in the state of michigan. have you heard about this story? traditionally dominated state aproves a law that will give workers more choice they say. [shouting] well the michigan legislature approving a right to work law that stopping unions from collecting mandatory fees from nonunion employees. now the unions see it as a clear defeat but mesh goon's governor, a republican, rick snyder, calls it a victory for workers. >> you will have people will be working right alongside of you that will not have to pay union dues if you pay union dues but will still be able to get all the benefits from being a union member. >> governor you're picking a fight with labor here. >> no. it is no the picking a fight. i figure solving this issue for union workers. they have hard-working people in michigan. this is about giving people a choice. bill: president obama repeats his opposition to the law as michigan becomes the 24th right-to-work state in america. as you see how it is spreading there in blue. steve moore, senior economics writer, "wall street journal."

in a live report. jon: fox news alert for you now. you are looking live at the shores of lake michigan just off chicago where this historic world war ii aircraft has been recovered. it has been lying on the bottom of lake michigan for the last 65 years or so. it was recently located, and it is being brought to the surface. this from illinois. this plane was part of a check out ride for a pilot learning to land on aircraft carriers, it was his third check out flight. they used to put the aircraft carriers on lake michigan for these practice tips. he was trying to take off and the engine sputtered and died, the plane went into the water, sank about 200 feet down and was lost until today. it is going to be put on display in the chicago area, and we should also note that a very generous donor is funding this recovery work. great news out of chicago. heather: it looks like it's been preserved pretty well there too. we will never forget ceremonies set to get underway in hawaii to mark japan's surprise attack on pearl harbor 71 years ago today. the attack killed more than 2400 americans and it lau

wisconsin is really starting to take the brunt of this and beginning to snow hard now in northern michigan. we'll pick up an additional six to ten inches in northern michigan and wisconsin. but it's the winds that are making it very difficult for the plows to keep up with. we have winds gusting from wichita to des moines, above 40 miles per hour this morning. so travel in the midwest, very dangerous. and i'll continue to give you any updates here on "morning joe." when i hear more information of the mobile area in alabama, possibly struck by a tornado within the last half hour. you're watching "morning joe." we're brewed by starbucks. this family used capital one venture miles to come home for the holidays. that's double miles you can actually use... sadly, their brother's white christmas just got "blacked out."
